Welcome to the Discovering Galapagos Teacher Zone, a curriculum linked resource developed by the Galapagos Conservation Trust and the Royal Geographical Society. In this section you can discover a range of resources which can be used independently or for cross-curricular programmes.
The purpose of this page is to provide useful tools and information to ensure that you are able to get the most out of Discovering Galapagos for your classroom.
The curriculum links for the topics covered in Discovering Galapagos can be easily identified using the Teacher side tab when in a chapter. Each Key Stage is marked by its own colour and each curriculum area has its own symbol (see ks2 example below).

The learning objectives and student outcomes are clearly outlined at the start of each chapter along with a brief introduction and curriculum links.
The main lesson activities are broken down into the following sections:
- Fire Starter – an introduction to the topic and activities to help get you started
- Gaining Ground – the main learning activities for the chapter
- Making Waves – activities to help follow the lesson, reinforcing the main learning objectives
Some chapters will also include extension/ homework activities, and also suggestions for other complementary Discovering Galapagos chapters. The learning activities are devised for individual, pair or groupwork. Several are in interactive multimedia format for use either on an Interactive Whiteboard or for students to complete individually.
Wherever possible there are text-based alternatives, usually in Microsoft Word. You can download these to use away from the computer and/or to adapt them to meet your students’ needs. Go to Accessibility (link) for more technical help on using and adapting the site.
